Final Self Designed Project Update: Out of Season
For the final presentation of my self designed project titled "Out of Season" I decided to design the text that would accompany my physical project. Since I made a five course meal, this meant designing the intentional way I would display the titles and descriptions of each course. I opted to go for a design that combined lots of existing elements into a nice menu with a foreground and background that had natural illustrations to bring about symbols of nature, fruit, and oppulence. I used regal colors like white, gold and maroon to subtly, (or at least without saying it) make the context surrounding the description of the courses for the night feel regal or high class. I used inspiration from Daniel Humm only in terms of the verticality of the menu which does largely meet broader industry standards for tasting menus.
From a feasibility standpoint, I really couldn't afford to try recooking any of my courses and I am frankly happy with where they are for this project. I have a plan that is external to my class to cook this meal for my family when I move home for my gap year which would be a fulfilling way to apply my work from this class to a greater audience which is harder for my piece than someone who made a more traditional visual art piece that could just show their friends and family. This has been a great opportunity for me to take a project I have been wishing I could do and actualize it with active feedback so I am really happy with the choices I made and end result.
Wow the menu looks so good! It's been so fun listening to you talk about these dishes and see how you over come an obstacles while making it. I hope you are able to recook these recipes the way you intended them to be!
